This CNC router and it’s design will only be sold to one person. This will give you the opportunity to patent it’s design and manufacture it. It will come with a signed confidentiality agreement which protects you. Once sold, I will not sell this design again. This machine is capable of reproducing itself once built. You will get detailed Sketchup files, parts lists and material sources. You will be the sole owner of this machine. I had intended to sell this machine commercially. I’m in a four year program training as a machinist and do not have the time to continue this project any further. I spent thousands of dollars and hours designing and building this machine. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. I have done all the hard work for you.
It took me ten years to build and finalize this machine. It was constantly refined until I was satisfied with it’s performance. As pictured it has a 24″ x 24″ routing area with 3″ of Z axis clearance. This machine was carefully designed to be expandable to 24″ x 36″, 24″ x 48″, 36″ x 36″ and 48″ x 48″. ( It can also be built in other configurations. ) It uses heavy duty aluminum extrusion and cast aluminum tooling pate in its construction which makes it very ridged and flat. It is capable of routing wood, plastic and aluminum. Linear motion is accomplished using THK linear rails instead of cheap skate or v-groove bearings. This greatly reduces backlash and improves repeatability. It’s X axis is driven using dual ACME lead screws which prevents gantry racking. Both the Y and Z axis use ACME as well. The ACME nuts are made from DERLIN and can be replaced when needed. 1/2″ ACME screws served this design well. There are 288 threaded holes in the bed for material clamping so there’s no need for a large spoilboard. The spoilboard only needs to be 1/8 inch thick and can be any size you desire. It uses high quality bearings on the ACME screws and OLDHAM couplings to connect the NEMA 24 stepper motors. This machine was designed to be used with a VFD spindle not a wood router. My experience with wood routers such as the BOSCH 1617 was marginal and I found the bearings would not last and had to be frequently changed. A VFD spindle is the way to go.
You have the opportunity to take all of my hard work and turn it into an enterprise. I’m positive this project could be a real moneymaker! One thing you need to be aware of. This project will require access to a CNC mill for it’s initial construction, after that this machine can replicate itself. In other words, You can use this machine to build this machine.
